In just a few short weeks, we will be celebrating the dawn of a new year. With each new year comes the chance to reflect on the past and an opportunity to frame our future.
If you are like most people, you will no doubt be making at least one New Year’s resolution. So, come 2010, what’s it going to be?
Will you pledge to lose weight? Eat better? Exercise more? These are usually among the top 10 New Year’s resolutions that people make each year. If losing weight is on your top 10 list of resolutions, what can you do to make it happen?
Here are just a few tips to help you get started:
- Reflect on your food choices. Mindless eating can get you into trouble, since you may not be aware of how much you are actually eating. Try to see how your eating habits (and inactivity) may have contributed to your weight gain. Then, create a plan to change what needs changing.
- Retrain your taste buds. Choose smart foods like fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It might take a while for your taste buds to get used to the new flavor of healthy foods, so give it time. Pretty soon you won’t miss the fat, the sweets and the salt that you have grown accustomed to.
- Be food smart. Shop for foods that will make it easy for you to eat right. Why bring needless temptations into your home?
- Keep an eye on your plate. Whether you are eating in or dining out, you need to take a good look at what is on your plate. Then, ask yourself one simple question, “Will it help me to lose the weight?”
- Think positively. If you think you can, you will. If you think you can’t, you won’t.
