Vitamin C

Vitamin C is well known for its infection-fighting properties. Since humans do not make this vitamin, it should be included in the diet daily. A deficiency of vitamin C can result in increased susceptibility to infections, impaired wound healing and easy bruising, bleeding gums, rough dry skin, nosebleeds and a host of other symptoms. Most adults need between 75 and 100 mg of vitamin C daily. Food sources of vitamin C include oranges and other citrus fruits, kiwi, mango, papaya, guava, acerola, broccoli, tomatoes and green peppers.
