The
food industry is busy trying to persuade us that the decision to have
junk food or not to should be a personal one, free of government interference.
Even young children, they argue, should be left to their own will,
or the decision of their parents (while they are at school), to make
the [right] choice. Fortunately for California residents, Governor
Arnold Scwarzenegger is taking the high road in supporting the ban
on junk food in the schools. What’s your choice?
On
December 1, 2005, we will celebrate the first annual World Junk-Food
Free Day. You have the chance to join millions in saying, "We
won't take it anymore." Just say "NO" to junk food
and give yourself the chance for a healthy future.
Like
Governor Scwarzenegger and other government officials around the country,
you can step up to the plate (no pun intended) and refuse to be a
dumping ground for the junk-food industry. You are worth more. The
good news for California residents is, the governor is putting his
money where his mouth is by providing millions of dollars to increase
the amount of fruits and vegetables available in schools.
Research
clearly shows that a diet loaded with junk food increases the risk
of obesity and life-threatening health conditions, like diabetes,
heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, high
cholesterol and stroke. On the other hand, consuming as little as
five servings of fruits and vegetables may decrease those risks.
You
can make the decision to not be a victim of the fast-food industry
anymore. Take back control of your diet and your health. Say "NO"
to junk foods today. Go for the good stuff.
