Food sources of iron

Iron is a key mineral that is needed for proper blood formation, cell respiration and resistance from disease. Women need about 15 mg of iron from dietary sources daily, while men need about 10 mg. Too little iron results in anemia, while too much could result in a condition called hemocrhomatosis. Hemochromatosis usually affect men who have a disease resulting in too much storage of iron. On the other hand, women who are pregnant need more iron, due to the expanding blood volume and the need for iron by the developing fetus.

Here are a few foods that are good sources of iron.
Prunes
Raisins
Broccoli

Spinach and other leafy greens
Dried beans and peas
Molasses
Egg yolk
Beef
Liver and other organ meats
Chicken
Turkey
Pork
Whole grain cereal
